Antel A1 Pond Paint is an easy to use (fish friendly) two part water based epoxy pond paint which can be applied to practically any surface. Our high quality, quick drying system will help to protect and prolong the life of your pond, giving it a clean and professional look.
A1 Pond Paint can be used virtually anywhere that concrete, masonry, fibreglass or marine plywood requires protection or waterproofing.
Available in 1L, 2.5L & 5L sizes and a variety of colours. 1 Litre covers approximately 6-7 sqm for one coat but this will vary depending on the porosity of the substrate. Two coats are recommended and need to be applied 24 hours apart. Once the two parts have been mixed you have approx 1.5 hours before the material becomes unworkable, therefore we recommend purchasing separate pots for coats one and two. After the second coat has been applied please wait 4-5 days before refilling your pond.
Not suitable for pond liners, breeze blocks or concrete blocks without first being rendered. Minimum application temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. Please read the full instructions on the label before starting application.
A1 Pond Paint - Waterproof Paint for Pools and Ponds
Antel A1 Pond Paint is a universal water based epoxy resin coating, designed for easy and safe application.
A1 Pond Paint possesses most of the properties of conventional epoxy resins with many additional advantages, particularly its tolerance of damp application conditions. It is applied in the same manner as ordinary emulsion paint and dries quickly to form a tough, easily cleaned coating, providing a waterproof barrier. The coating is non toxic, resistant to oil, and most mild chemicals. Subsequent over coating can be carried out after the original surface has been thoroughly degreased and cleaned.
The scope of applications for A1 Pond Paint is extensive and it can be used virtually anywhere that concrete, masonry, fibreglass or marine plywood requires protection or waterproofing. For metal we recommend Antel Epoxy Solvent Free Coating. Not suitable for application to butyl liners. We don't recommend applying to either breeze blocks or concrete blocks without first being rendered.
A two part product available in 1, 2.5 and 5 litres. Non- returnable containers.
Store in a cool, dry and frost free area in original containers. Protect from freezing. Keep out of the reach of children. A shelf life in excess of 12 months can be expected for unopened containers kept in the above conditions.
5. DRYING & CURING
At 20 °C, and with reasonable ventilation, the coating is touch dry in 6 hours and hard dry in 12 hours. Maximum cure, hardness and chemical resistance is obtained within 7 days.
Every litre of pond paint will cover approximately 6-7 squared metres (based on a non porous, smooth surface), however this will vary depending on how thickly you apply the material and also how porous the surface is.
If you are unsure on the porosity of the surface, we recommend you buy a little more than you think you will need to ensure you don’t run out of paint part way through the application.
7. CLEANING EQUIPMENT
When using spray equipment a thorough rinsing with cold water every hour will prevent a build up of cured material. Brushes and rollers should be washed with cold water and detergent and rinsed thoroughly in cold water.
8. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
THE PERFORMANCE OF THE COATING CAN BE SERIOUSLY IMPAIRED IF THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT STRICTLY ADHERED TO
Do not use any PVA coating on the substrate prior to application, as this will result in the paint peeling off.
Do not apply in temperatures below 10 °C/50 °F and ensure there is at least a 4 hour weather window. We do not recommend application late in the day, due to dropping temperatures and increased humidity.
A1 Pond Paint can be applied in mildly damp conditions but will not tolerate standing water.
Although A1 Pond Paint will overcoat most other finishes and paints, the best results are achieved when surfaces are clean and free of other finishes/coatings. If applying over an existing coating or to a non-porous surface, mechanically sand the area to create a key.
All surfaces should be dry, mildly damp or at least not subject to running water. Particular attention should be made to degreasing surfaces before application. All voids and surface imperfections must be carefully filled.
Clean the surface you will be applying the A1 Pond Paint to. If there are any leaks, these should be repaired with Antel Waterstop or Antel Epoxy Putty before applying the A1 Pond Paint. If unsure, please contact us for technical advice.
A1 Pond Paint can be applied to fibreglass but it’s important the surface is mechanically sanded to provide a key.
The pot life is approximately 1.5 hours. This is based on a temperature of 20 °C/68 °F. If you are applying the coating in higher temperatures, the pot life may be reduced. The material will become unworkable once outside of this pot life.
Once mixed, it is only possible to apply a single coat. Do not attempt to return to the mix to apply a second coat.
For simplicity we would recommend using a separate pack of A1 Pond Paint for each coat, however if you would like to use one pack for both coats, you will need to accurately divide the A and B packs proportionately using digital scales.
1. Mix the A Pack thoroughly.
2. Mix the B Pack thoroughly.
3. Pour the contents of the B Pack into the larger A Pack.
4. Mix again thoroughly (ideally with a mixer paddle) for a minimum of three minutes, so that the two components are completely mixed.
5. Pour into at least one roller tray to maintain pot life.
6. Start application immediately.
8.3. APPLICATION STEPS
1. Apply the first coat by medium pile roller or brush. Do not apply too thickly, as this may affect the curing process. This is particularly important for A1 Pond Paint Clear where thick application may result in a milky appearance.
2. Wait 24 hours before applying the second coat. Reduced time between coats maybe possible, but it’s very important to seek technical advice from Antel before attempting this.
3. Within a maximum period of 48 hours, apply the second coat.
4. After applying the final coat, wait 5 days before refilling your pond. Once fulled cured, the material is chemically inert.
Wait 5 days before refilling your pond. After this time the coating will be chemically inert but premature refilling could be dangerous to aquatic life. Rinse first before refilling.
It's vital to correctly condition the water in your newly refilled pond before adding any aquatic life. Please seek the advice of a professional if you have any doubts on how to do this.
9. HEALTH & SAFETY
A1 Pond Paint is much safer to handle than other resin systems, however it is recommended that all skin contact is avoided and that any areas of contact are washed immediately with soap and warm water. It is advisable to use a barrier cream and gloves when applying.
FOR FULL DETAILS PLEASE REFER TO HEALTH & SAFETY DATA SHEET.
NOTE REF 1
Antel A1 Pond Paint – Clear
With the formulation of the emulsion the mixture will take on a milky colour. This milkiness will gradually disappear during the curing cycle provided that the coating is not too thickly applied nor allowed to fill holes in the surface area of the application. If either of these situations does occur the milkiness will not disappear. All voids or surface imperfections must be carefully filled prior to any application of Clear A1 Pond Paint.
Antel A1 Pond Paint is available in a variety of colours. Please enquire for details.

I was so pleased with your product and ease of its application, that I would like to share photos of our finished water feature.
Many thanks for your assistance in choosing the right product. I will recommend you to anyone who I know attempting this type of project.
Mr Noge M purchased our A1 Pond Paint
Just wanted to say thanks to Julian for his advice. Never painted a pond and his help was very much appreciated. Must say the difference before and after is stunning!
Mr Chris K purchased our A1 Pond Paint
I bought some black A1 pond paint from you a couple of months ago to cover a layer of bare brick around the top of my pond, just above the water line. This was to protect the mortar and allow me add another few inches of water. Now that I have refilled the pond, and added the plants and fish, I thought I would let you know how impressed I am with the pond paint. I have added an extra 4” of water so that the new paint is partially covered. It looks fantastic - a huge improvement on the 6” of bare brick look. I have attached a photo. I like the way you can still see the shape of the bricks just above water level but I feel confident in the seal. The paint also formed a perfect seal around the overflow drain in the side of the pond. I had the work carried out by Carl at Midlands Fibreglassed Ponds as he did the original fibreglassing. Your instructions were very clear and enabled him to prepare the fibreglassed surface and the brickwork thoroughly before applying the paint. The final finish is excellent and I am much happier with the pond. Thanks for your help in providing the paint and giving me advice in its use.

For waterproofing any project that will hold animals or fish the best product I have found is A1 Pond Paint from Antel. It is completely safe once dried and that is what makes it worth the money. It is water based but sets like a resin. It's a two part paint so mix small batches at a time because it actually goes a long way. I have built two large grow beds for a large aquaponic system (Pictured below) and a few other bits and I still have about half a tin left.
Mr B Davies
Just a few lines to say your pond paint is fantastic even on railway sleepers.
Mr Terry D
Just got round to writing this review, having installed a raised, concrete-lined fish pond last summer - some 4 meters long, 2 wide and 1 deep. The 'wisdom' of the cognoscenti was that the best waterproofer was [Brand removed]. No, no and thrice no! [Brand removed] is messy, hard & hazardous to apply, a pig to clean equipment and only available in limited colours (even the 'clear' finishes brown).
I found Antel on the web (and at this point it is worth mentioning that I have absolutely NO CONNECTION with the Company whatsoever) and after a couple of phone calls I was persuaded to try the A1 pond paint in York Stone. What a revelation. It went on easy-peasy with an ordinary sheepskin roller, it covered the [brand removed] in one pass - although I put two coats on, even though this probably wasn't necessary, and I cleaned everything down afterwards with plain old H2o.
Some 15 months later it is still colourfast - and even though algae grows on the sides, a quick brush down with a stiff broom brings the finish up like new. Julian, who claimed the difference between [brand removed] and A1 was like comparing a Reliant with a Roller - but he was right!
Mr David W
What an excellent product. Bought pond second hand, filled a few idents and used A1 Pond Paint in green and it's come out looking brand new, very pleased thank you.
Mr Paul C
I would like to say your service is excellent. Your product knowledge is good, also ordering and delivery is spot on!
I am extremely pleased with the paint, particularly the size of the pigment tin being large enough to accept the hardener without having to find a 3rd container, that is very useful. Application is easy with a brush and the overall result is just what I wanted.
What more can I say.....!
